Do Girls really need their mothers?

We are told girls...all children need their mothers, and we do. But how are we affected; how do we develop when we lose our mothers at a very young age? What void does that loss create? I am told that the early love I received from my mom kept me from going off the rails when things got really tough. Sometimes we spend the rest of our lives trying to fill that void... and more often than we know... the hole gets bigger. It can take a lifetime to fill it. Some may never fill it at all.
