What does surviving trauma mean? Does it mean simply that we lived past it and came out alive? Does it mean because we lived, and perhaps escaped it, we can forget it, bury it, or choose not to think about it? No. That's not how life works.
No matter how hard we try to resist, it shapes us in some form, thought or feeling, and influences the decisions we make and who we become. Only our feral resolve to live the life we want for ourselves keeps the wolf of old fears at bay while we build whatever life we are able. We make day-by-day choices toward self-determination and self-definition. It's hard work. But it can be done. I hope to inspire you.
It's what my memoir is about, to be published in Spring 2024 by She Writes Press.
