If we are open, and if we are lucky, we never stop learning, growing, and changing. For my summer course at Oxford, a kind gift from my husband, I chose Shakespeare because I find his writing challenging. The biggest revelation was that like all of us, Shakespeare’s writing was shaped by his time and place of birth, his education in classical Greek and Latin, the culture, history, and expectations of his day, and his patron, the King. Once you understand that, you are closer to understanding Shakespeare, and appreciating his stories and his genius. It was humbling and inspiring to be surrounded by so much history, knowledge, academic rigor, and tradition. I look forward to being part of the esteemed rank of writers soon.
My book, Redeemed, A Memoir of a Stolen Childhood will be published June 25, 2024.
