The strength of the human spirit triumphs all...

A long, beautiful story of poverty, neglect addiction and growing up "different" in a world that values conformity at all costs. Set in 1980s Glasgow, Scotland, this book takes you on a heart-wrenching journey of love, resilience, and the enduring bond between a son and his troubled mother, Agnes. Stuart's writing is evocative and raw, painting a vivid picture of a bleak and gritty Glasgow while also capturing the complex emotions of his characters. He skillfully delves into the depths of addiction, poverty, and the impact of societal pressures on individuals and families.

The characters in "Shuggie Bain" are exceptionally well-drawn, and you can't help but empathize with their struggles and hopes. Shuggie, in particular, is a remarkable protagonist whose unwavering love for his mother is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Sometimes, it so painful, I just had to put it down.

It is also a beautifully written and deeply moving book. This book is a reminder of the enduring power of love and the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity, making it a must-read for anyone looking for a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant literary experience. I loved it.

My book, Redeemed, A Memoir of a Stolen Childhood will be published June 25, 2024.
