"They don’t so much make decisions as they just survive their lives."

A good description from Connie Wang in her new memoir, "Oh My Mother!" about her immigrant parents experience adjusting to life in America. I did not understand that until read that quote, but I do think it is true of mine. She speaks candidly about how writing her book helped her understand her mother in relation to her own immigrant story and what is means to be Chinese American today. Many of us can say that about our parents, especially if they were immigrants. Writing my story did help me clarify things I never saw about my family before, making me more open to nuance, circumstance, and luck. I love how memoirs give us insight into lives we think are so different than ours- but find out are not.

My book, Redeemed, A Memoir of a Stolen Childhood will be published June 25, 2024. Keep checking for book cover and other details.
